The Best of Africa

Cape Town. Stellenbosch. Victoria Falls. Nairobi. The Maasai Mara. The gorillas of Rwanda. Seventeen nights, five countries, six rounds — one journey no one else strings together.

The shape of it

A continent in one unbroken arc.

It begins under Table Mountain and ends in the bamboo mist of the Virungas. In between: golf among the vines, a round above the Zambezi gorge with the Falls' spray on the horizon, the grand old clubs of Nairobi a mile above sea level, the Migration plains of the Mara — and, on the final mornings, an hour in the company of mountain gorillas that guests tell us changes how they see everything, golf included.

Twelve guests. Two hosts. Every border, transfer, tee time and gorilla permit handled before you ever pack a bag.

Shelagh's note

Book the gorilla permits the moment you commit — they're capped each day and gone months ahead. On this journey, ours are secured the day your deposit lands.

Day by day

Seventeen nights, in two halves a day.

Each day is built in halves — the wild, the fairway, and the Gallery's own — so nobody waits and nobody misses.

Days 1–4Cape Town

Table Mountain, two oceans, and a gentle first tee

Settle in beneath the mountain. A round at Steenberg among the Constantia vines to find your travel legs; the cable car, Cape Point and the penguins of Boulders for the party.

Round 1 · SteenbergCape Point & BouldersGallery: Kirstenbosch & the V&A

Stay: a five-star Cape Town hotel beneath the mountain

Days 4–6Stellenbosch

Golf among the vines

Thirty minutes into the winelands. A round at De Zalze beneath the Helderberg, then two unhurried days among the estates — cellar lunches, oak-lined streets, mountains the colour of slate at dusk.

Round 2 · De ZalzeGallery: private cellar tour & tastings

Stay: a winelands estate hotel, Stellenbosch

Days 6–9Victoria Falls

The Smoke that Thunders

Fly north to the Zambezi. Mosi-oa-Tunya at full voice, a sunset cruise among hippo and elephant, and a round at Elephant Hills — Gary Player's design above the gorge, where warthog share the fairways and the spray drifts on the horizon.

The Falls & Zambezi cruiseRound 3 · Elephant HillsGallery: helicopter Flight of Angels (optional)

Stay: a grand Zambezi-bank hotel, Victoria Falls

Days 9–11Nairobi

The grand old clubs of East Africa

Two rounds a mile above the sea — Muthaiga, home of the Magical Kenya Open, and Karen, beside Karen Blixen's Out of Africa farm. Up here the ball flies a club further; your caddie will tell you exactly which one.

Rounds 4 & 5 · Muthaiga & KarenGallery: Giraffe Centre, Blixen Museum, the Sheldrick elephants

Stay: a country-house hotel, Karen

Days 11–14Maasai Mara

The greatest wildlife theatre on earth

By light aircraft to a private conservancy bordering the Mara — off-road drives, night drives, walking, and almost no other vehicles. Lion, leopard and cheetah on wide gold plains; on the July departure, the river crossings themselves.

Two game drives daily · private conservancyDawn balloon over the Mara (optional)

Stay: a private-conservancy camp, Greater Mara

Days 14–17Rwanda

The gorillas — and the only Gary Player course in East Africa

Kigali first: a round at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas, Player's amphitheatre across the thousand hills, and an afternoon in a capital the world has fallen for. Then north to the Virungas for the hour that guests struggle to describe afterwards: a family of mountain gorillas, an arm's length away, in the misted bamboo.

Round 6 · Kigali Golf ResortGorilla trek · Volcanoes NPGallery: golden-monkey trek or second gorilla permit (optional)

Stay: Kigali boutique hotel, then a Volcanoes NP lodge

Day 18Homeward

The long talk on the way home

A last Kigali morning, then your hosts see you to the aircraft. Direct connections to Europe and beyond.

Graeme's tip

Pack soft holdalls, not hard cases — the little planes won't take them. Fifteen kilograms, soft-sided, and you'll never miss the rest. Your clubs travel separately in our care between cities.

Tell us how you want to feel when you come home.

We'll build the wild, and the golf, around that — and nothing else.
